COVANSYS LAUNCHES TWO NEW INFORMATION
SOURCES FOR THE CONTAINER SECURITY INITIATIVE
Web Portal & White Paper
Designed to Educate Companies
About New National Security Regulations
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--Feb. 24, 2003--Covansys
Corporation (Nasdaq: CVNS), a global consulting and technology
services company, today announced the launch of their new information
portal, The CSI Institute (www.csiinstitute.com),
and a white paper entitled "Barcode Issues: Sunrise 2005 & The
Container Security Initiative." Both resources are intended
to help educate retailers, distributors and manufacturers about
the short and long-term impact of the rapidly evolving Container
Security Initiative (CSI), which is designed to improve U.S. security
by tightening and expanding cargo-reporting requirements.
Covansys' CSI Institute is a rich Web-based resource for companies faced
with the complex issue of CSI compliance. It includes items such as:
- An overview of the CSI and its relation to
Sunrise 2005
- Links to relevant news articles
- A comprehensive list of CSI-related Web sites
- An in-depth Q&A section
- Online access to a CSI expert
- In-depth white papers such as the "Barcode
Issues: Sunrise 2005 & The Container Security Initiative," which
examines the role of barcodes under the CSI.
"The CSI will have far-reaching effects
on the supply chain," said Gordon Fuller, director of e-business,
Covansys. "Retailers, manufacturers and distributors rely on
technology to effectively manage their supply chains. Covansys
seeks to help companies understand how the CSI will impact their
business,
and how they can adapt their
business systems to optimize their supply chains, while meeting these
new security and trade requirements."
The U.S. Customs Service was ordered to implement the CSI to respond
to terrorist threats against goods imported into the United States. Phase
One of the CSI, which was federally mandated as of February 3, 2003,
focuses on improving U.S. security by pre-screening containers before
they reach U.S. ports. Later stages of the CSI will establish standards
for the security and integrity of containers and
cargo throughout the transportation supply chain.
"Forward-looking companies that understand the impact of the CSI, and begin
planning for improved data management and security requirements, will be better
positioned for long-term profitability," said Martin C. Clague, president
and CEO of Covansys. "Covansys is pleased to help those in the retail, manufacturing
and distribution industries better understand the CSI by providing resources
like the CSI Institute and our recent white paper. Covansys is committed to serving
as an expert and thought leader by anticipating the needs of our client companies,
and by providing them with the highest quality
IT solutions possible."
Covansys recently announced the availability of the Covansys Secure Supply
Chain Solution, a customized service offering that enables international
companies to meet the new business challenges and opportunities posed
by The Container Security Initiative (CSI). This solution is part of
the company's application, maintenance and development outsourcing (AMD/O)
service offering. Covansys has been executing similar conversion projects
for the past 18 years for leading retailers such as Lands' End and The
