COVANSYS DONATES $194,000 FOR TSUNAMI RELIEF
Contributions Total more than $300,000 with American India Foundation Match
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, February 10, 2005 –
Covansys Corporation (Nasdaq: CVNS), a global consulting and technology
services company, announced today that through employee donations,
the company and The Vattikuti Foundation, it made a $150,000 cash
donation to the American India Foundation (AIF), a group dedicated
to accelerating social and economic change in India, to support
Tsunami relief and rehabilitation efforts in South India. AIF will
match Covansys’ contribution, resulting in $300,000 to support
tsunami relief efforts. An additional $44,000 was donated by the
Covansys India employees to support local rebuilding efforts of
new school buildings and primary healthcare centers.
Covansys India teams donated more than cash, they also donated
physical humanitarian efforts. In the days immediately following
the tsunami, employees visited the affected areas to provide physical
and moral support, and established a support center for families
in need of clothing, food and water.
Covansys employees worldwide contributed a total of $144,000.
Covansys and the Vattikuti Foundation pledged to match up to $50,000
in donations made by Covansys employees.
“We send our support to those who have been impacted by
this tragedy, as they struggle to rebuild their lives,” said
Raj B. Vattikuti, Covansys president and chief executive officer. “The
collective support from around the world is inspiring, and we hope
victims will soon see their communities restored.”
AIF Honorary Chairman President Bill Clinton reminds us, "The
Tsunami disaster is a tragedy of historic and global proportions,
and though it struck in the span of hours, its effects will be
felt for years to come. Charitable people throughout the world
are responding with great generosity, but we must not forget that
the need for assistance will continue long after the story has
faded from the front pages. We must do all we can to help now and
support longer term restoration efforts in the months and years
to come."
Founded in March 2001, AIF is devoted to accelerating social and
economic change in India. The earthquake in Gujarat, on January
26, 2001, brought together a group of prominent Indo-Americans
to find an efficient way to channel resources and funds from across
the country towards relief efforts in India. Since then, the mission
of AIF has expanded to embrace all of India. More information on
AIF is available at http://www.aifoundation.org.
Established in 1997, The Vattikuti Foundation, Raj Vattikuti’s
personal charitable organization, donated more than $100,000 to
assist the tens of thousands of victims of the devastating earthquake
that struck India on January 2001. Past donations include $250,000
to various charities focused on victims of the September 11th terrorist
attacks, and a commitment of up to $40 million towards cancer research
programs at Beaumont and Henry Ford hospitals in Michigan.
