CHICKASAW NATION AWARDS COVANSYS CONTRACT TO REPLACE WIC INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Technology Enhancements Will Speed Nutritional Support to
Indian Tribal Organization Families
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, December 7, 2004 – Covansys
Corporation (Nasdaq: CVNS), a global consulting and technology
services company, announced today that it has been awarded a contract
by the Chickasaw Nation, acting on behalf of a consortium of 13
Intertribal Organizations (ITO), named SPIRIT, to replace their
existing Women, Infants and Children (WIC) information management
system, with a technologically advanced web-based information management
system.
The federally-funded WIC program is tasked with safeguarding the
health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age five
who are at nutritional risk. The program provides healthy, nutritious
foods to supplement diets, as well as information on healthy eating,
breast-feeding advice and support, and referrals to health care.
The new web-based information management system is designed to
significantly increase customer service for families in need. The
project, valued at more than $3,000,000, is scheduled to be completed
by October 2007.
“We are very excited about this project and the technological
advances and expertise that Covansys brings to make this the state
of the art WIC system in the country,” said Jan L’hommedieu,
Chickasaw Nation Project Manager.
In addition to providing a cost-effective and efficient technology
solution for the SPIRIT consortium, the web-based WIC information
system will positively impact the lives of program participants
by:
-
Streamlining pre-qualification processes to
speed WIC program enrollment for eligible participants;
- Providing
program participants with funds for food more quickly thanks to
improved check processing capabilities;
- Ensuring
accuracy of the determination of eligibility for WIC program services
as a result of enhanced information
gathering and sharing; and
- Securing
ongoing federal funding for the WIC consortium users by improving
federal reporting capabilities.
“Covansys prides itself on providing cost-saving solutions
to state governments,” said Arvind Malhotra, senior vice
president, Covansys Public Sector Practice. “We are confident
that our leadership experience in providing solutions for WIC programs
will result in a successful implementation, significant cost savings,
and improved quality of life for all families participating in
the WIC program.”

to more than 47 states plus the Virgin Islands, District of Columbia
